FRUSTRATED ... Darren Barker was desperate to get back in the ring next month
DARREN BARKER cannot believe his injury curse has struck yet again.
The middleweight was forced to pull the plug on his comeback fight with Simone Rotolo earlier this week after damaging tendons in his arm.Having spent nearly a year on the sidelines recovering from a perforated eardrum and hip surgery, Barker was in peak condition ahead of Matchroom’s September 8 card at London’s Alexandra Palace.
But he now faces another three months out — leaving the two-time European champion wondering why Lady Luck has deserted him once more.
Barker, 30, told SunSport: "It's a nightmare. We've did everything we could to get round it but there weren't any shortcuts or quick fixes to get me through the fight.
"I've got to think of my future and I just had to pull out.
"I've damaged a tendon and torn some bicep fibres, so they were worried about the whole bicep rupturing.
"It's such a shame. I was lying in bed last night, my arm was aching and I could see Ally Pally, which left me thinking I need some luck. But that's life, isn't it?."
Chelsea fan Barker added: "We're not like footballers. When they get injured, they still get paid every week.
"We put so much time into our camp and really do train hard, so when something like this happens it's just doom and gloom. It's hard to stay positive.
"It's just a matter now of cracking on and trying to get back in there as soon as possible.
"They've said three months but I need to get away, spend some time with the family and cheer myself up. It really has done my head in.
"With the injury I've got, the most important thing is rest."
