Lady Gaga brought her Born This Way Ball tour to the UK last night with the first of two shows at Twickenham Stadium in southwest London – and she put her backside into it.
The curvy singer flashed her assets in fishnets and a distressed white shirt proclaiming ‘art pop’, her forthcoming album, as part of the show’s 15 costume changes – all designed by Versace, Moschino and Armani. The 26-year-old American singer performed a slew of chart-toppers, including Just Dance and Bad Romance, and paid tribute to Amy Winehouse and Princess Diana with her new song Princess Die. Expecting “controversy”, she said: “Since I was a very young girl, the people’s Princess was the most important person in me and my mother’s life.
“I swore if I ever had an audience like this in London, I would take a moment to appreciate her.”
She also covered Imagine by John Lennon, declaring him the “greatest songwriter ever”.
The extravagant sets include a medieval castle, a mechanical horse, the motorbike piano and even a giant meat grinder.
But the lovely Lady was angelic on her return to the Dorchester Hotel after the show in a flowing white number, gold diadem and heels at a surprisingly sensible height. She later told her followers on Twitter: “Twickenham, im not even sure what to say. I’ll never forget tonight. London you were the fairest of the ball. now THAT was f*cking fun.
She returns to Twickenham tonight before heading to Manchester Arena on 11 September.
