No large convoys, aides’ for Buhari’s ministers

All 36 ministers in President Buhari's cabinet will be having their convoys and aides cut down. One of the ministers-designate, Chris Ngige stated this while speaking to newsmen at the end of the ministerial retreat in Abuja yesterday November 6th
"Yes, we shall operate a lean economy because we are going to block areas of leakages, retinue of aides, protocol staff, large convoys of cars are things that will not fly in this administration" he said
Reacting to President Buhari's position that some ministers will not be assigned portfolio's in his cabinet, Ngige said
"If you have portfolio, if you don’t have portfolio, it is one single federal executive council. You bring whatever it is on the table. That is not a problem at all. We have the right to discuss things around the ministries because it is one single cabinet. The important thing is that we want to move our people from where they are now; they are in abject poverty, which concerns about 75 percent of the populace. So, we need to actually restructure the political and social moment of the country and that is what we are going to do. That means poverty will reduce.”he said

A toddler was caught on camera silently strangling on a window blind cord as his mother filmed the rest of the family playing together in the living room.
Gavin Walla, from Wisconsin, US, can be seen in the horrifying home video hanging limply from the looped window blind cord, which is wrapped around his neck.

Gavin's mother was filming a home video of her children playing together in their front room when she suddenly notices the toddler has stopped breathing.
Immediately, she drops the camera, screaming her son's name as she desperately tries to untangle the cord.
Thankfully, her quick actions saved Gavin's life and he's heard in the video coughing and spluttering as he gasps for breath.

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja directed the Federal Ministries of Works and Lands, Housing and Urban Development to urgently prepare and present for approval and implementation, a plan of action for the speedy revitalisation and expansion of the nation's vocational training centres.

In a statement by the SSA to the president, Garba Shehu, Media & Publicity; President Buhari gave the directive after being told at a meeting with the Board of Directors of a leading construction company in the country that because of a shortage of competent construction workers and artisans in the country, many construction companies were forced to bring in skilled workers from abroad.

Observing that this practice was very detrimental to his administration's commitment to boost employment opportunities for young Nigerians, President Buhari pledged that his administration will move quickly to address the shortage of skilled construction workers in the country.

A jury sentenced an Arizona man, Christopher Rey Licon, to life in prison Friday for killing his six-year-old nephew after the child witnessed his father's shooting death.

Licon was spared the death penalty and a judge will decide whether he will spend the rest of his life in prison or be eligible for release after 35 years.
Licon was convicted in mid-September in the 2010 shooting deaths of his half brother, Angel Jaquez, and his nephew, Xavier Jaquez.

Jurors deliberated for two days before reaching the decision on punishment.

He does not face the death penalty in his brother's killing and will be sentenced to 16 to 25 years on December 16.

A Texas woman spent 14 hours in jail after being arrested for trying to help her neighbor's dog that appeared to be left on a balcony with its mouth tied shut.

Amber Cammack called a number of government agencies, including the Harris County Sheriff's Office to report what appeared to be animal abuse of a dog her neighbor was keeping on a balcony.

The get-together was made possible by Khloé Kardashian, who was at the hospital with sister Kim Kardashian West and mom Kris Jenner, who has her own 60th birthday bash planned for Friday night.
Khloe reached out to Odom's former teammates as well as two of his best friends that are not NBA players and invited them to the get together. Kobe Bryant will not be able to attend because he's on the road but will send a gift and connect with his former teammate via FaceTime.

The party took place in a separate private room. Khloe arranged for a cake, balloons and party hats.

The source added that only a select amount of people could attend, and Kardashian had the get-together approved by his doctors.

"It's just a very small group of people because Lamar cannot handle too much stimulus, but the doctors are allowing a small group for a short time on his birthday," the source said.

Police have arrested the United Nations Environment Programme employee accused of battering his ex-wife. Alphonse Kambu was arrested at Garden Estate in Kasarani , around 9.30am on Wednesday, November 4, police boss Robinson Mboloi said.

The UNEP staff beat up his ex-wife, Ruth Gakii, in her apartment three weeks ago and told her he enjoys diplomatic immunity hence there is nothing she could do.

4 members of a family lost their lives today in a fatal accident along the Abakwa, Buruku local government area of Benue state. The accident involved an 18-seater commercial bus that collided with a motorcycle carrying the deceased persons which comprised of a man, his wife and two brothers. They all died on the spot, while a few passengers in the bus, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. Khadija Khatoon Khadija, 21, from Kolkata, West Bengal, Eastern India, was born without a face and her mouth is a small slit on the left side of her face. When she was born, concerned doctors were baffled by her condition for months. Although it has never been confirmed, they believe she has a form of neurofibromatosis, a rare deformity that causes tumours to grow along nerves. Medics told Khadija and her family there was nothing they could do after extra skin continued to grow out of control.

Durban Regional Court on Tuesday, October 27, handed Emmanuel Uche Odii, a 30-year jail term for human trafficking. National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that the 32-year-old was handed the sentence following his conviction in August on two counts of human trafficking, two counts of kidnapping, one of rape, one of sexual assault, one of assault, one of running a brothel.

His South African accomplice Bonginkosi Shange, 46, was handed a five year jail term for two human trafficking charges while his Nigerian accomplice, William Ojiaku, 30, was convicted in the on charges of kidnapping and handed a two year jail term that was suspended for five years

Despite intense media speculation that national U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia would be sacked soon, a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh has informed that the football house has no intention of sacking the Olympic silver medal-winning coach.

Speaking exclusively to Sports Vanguard yesterday, Yusuf said:

“There has never been a time we in the technical committee or at the executive committee level discussed any such thing. I am a member of both committees and never has that come up for discussion.”

Fresh admitted however, that Siasia was queried after what was taken as an affront against his employers.

He added: “But that was not enough for the media to suggest that it would lead to Siasia’s sack.

“Siasia was queried and he has since answered to the query. It is a normal administrative procedure which should not call for speculations that are unfounded. There is no intention to sack Siasia,”he repeated.

The Sokoto state police command have been accused of torturing one Shehu Yahaya, to death following his comment on an illegal checkpoint erected by some of the state police officers along Isa-Sabon Birni road in Sokoto on Sunday October 25th.

Daily Trust reports that the 25 year old father of two was on an errand for his sister when he met with the police officers on the road and made a comment about checkpoints that have been banned by President Buhari and the illegality in the one erected by the officers.

Investigators say a 76-year-old woman charged with murder in her husband's shooting told deputies she was angry because he accused her of cheating.
Aiken County deputies say Mary Todd also told the officers who came to her Beech Island home around 4 a.m. Tuesday that she drank too much before the confrontation.

Coroner Tim Carlton identified the victim as 78-year-old William Todd. Paramedics pronounced him dead in the couple's home.

Deputies say they had never been to the couple's home before for a domestic violence call.

Mary Todd is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime. She is being held at the Aiken County jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Couple arrested for leaving 3 month old baby in hot running water

Two people have been arrested and charged with child neglect after police say they left a 3-month-old baby unattended in hot running water, causing severe burns on the baby's body.
Marlon Valentine, 39, and Favian Houston, 29, both face charges of endangering the life of a child and child neglect.
Police say the two allegedly left the baby unattended in a sink smelling of urine with hot running water, causing second degree burns to five percent of the baby's body. Valentine and Houston also did not provide medical care for the child in a timely period, police said.

DCFS also removed two other children, ages 2 and 4, from their residence that appeared underweight and not properly cared for, police said. They were treated at a local hospital and released to another family member.

Valentine and Houston were taken into custody Friday and both posted bond.

South East roads require urgent Government attention - Osinbajo

Vice President Osinbajo, while answering questions from journalists at a wedding he attended at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Anglican Communion, Enugu, during the weekend, said that the worst problem plaguing people of the South-Eastern area was bad roads, adding that the situation required urgent Federal Government attention.

Prof. Osinbajo stated that even though the government has some financial constraints, there was urgent need to improve on the roads in the region where commerce is the source of income for the people. He said that he had discussed the issue with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
