$4.2 million for Christmas tree? This one's made of gold, and Disney characters

The "Disney Gold Christmas Tree" is shown Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan.

 -- For those seeking a glow to their Christmas this year, a jewelry store in downtown Tokyo has just the answer: a pure gold revolving "tree" covered in Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell and Cinderella.

The tree-like ornament is made of 88 pounds of pure gold, standing nearly 8 feet high and 3 feet in diameter. It is decorated with pure gold-plate silhouette cutouts of 50 popular Disney characters and draped with ribbons made of gold leaf.The price tag? A mere 350 million yen ($4.2 million).But the ornament is actually a deal, said Tomoko Ishibashi, in the marketing department of Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry, which runs the Ginza Tanaka jewelry store.

The combination of gold and Disney characters had spectators mesmerized."Right now gold is over 4,400 yen per gram. We used pure gold and had an expert craftsman form each Disney character by hand," she said of the decoration, which took 10 craftsmen two months to complete.

"It is very vivid and the gold is very pretty," said Takashi Miura, a 36-year-old jeweler. "The characters on it are also really cute and it really looks like a Christmas tree."For those with less ready cash, the store offers a scaled-down version that features 20 Disney characters for a mere 2 million yen ($243,000)

Terry G wanted by the Nigerian police for hit and run

The new papa (he just had a son) is wanted by the Nigerian police for a hit and run that occurred in Ikeja penultimate Friday.

According to police reports, Terry G hit the victim, Moshood Azeez, with his car while leaving Club Royale located on Oba Akran Rd Ikeja.

Moshood, whose leg was crushed in the accident, was rushed to General Hospital Ikeja where he is still receiving treatment. Terry G was said to have fled the scene of the accident now making it a police case.

Police at Wemabod Estate, Ikeja invited the Akpako master for questioning but he didn't respond to the invitation. Corporal Linus Reuben who is in charge of the case said Terry G has left the country for the UK. He said they plan to go after him once he returns.

Bi-Courtnery boss Wale Babalakin arrested for laundering N2billion

The Chief Executive Officer of Bi-Courtney Ltd, Wale Babalakin, has been arrested by the Economic andFinancial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was alleged to have helped in facilitating the siphoning about N2 billion belonging to Delta State on behalf of former Governor James Ibori. 

This is coming a few days after a concessionary agreement between Bi- Courtney and federal government on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway was terminated by government. EFCC sources in Abuja confirmed that the charges were filed against Babalakin today at a Lagos High Court in Ikeja (Daily Times)

Monalisa Chinda's ex-husband's second marriage crashes

According to sources in the know, the second (or third) marriage of Segun Dejo Richards has crashed. Monalisa Chinda's ex husband remarried in January 2011 less than two years after his marriage to the actress ended due to accusations of infidelity and domestic abuse. Dejo married Louisiana - US based Lamide Richards less than a year after he met her while she was on vacation in Nigeria. Less than two years later, Lamide's friends say she's separated from Dejo and is planning to officially divorce him soon.

This would be Dejo's 3rd failed marriage as it was reported a few years back that he was married for six months before marrying Monalisa Chinda in 2004.

President Jonathan's younger brother dies on his birthday

The younger half brother of president Goodluck Jonathan has died. Meni Jonathan  (pictured above) died today November 20th (the president's birthday) at the State House clinic in Abuja.

Meni, who was said to be in his late 40s, was flown in from Bayelsa last week to receive treatment at the Aso Rock Clinic for an undisclosed ailment he had been battling with for a few months now.

Mena, until his death was the chairman traditional council of chiefs  in Otuoke community of Bayelsa State. The president is yet to officially react to his brother's death. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

Advertising Guru, May Nzeribe, Is Dead

May Nzeribe, an icon of Nigeria’s advertising industry, has died in the United Kingdom.

 Dr. Nzeribe was reportedly flown abroad for treatment for an undisclosed ailment last month soon after he published a book on the industry he loved, “Advertising Ethics and Regulation in Nigeria: The Challenges.”

The industry veteran was the brain behind the firm, Sunrise d’Arcy.  He was also one of the brains behind the Advertising Practitioners Council of Niger (APCON).  He served on the boards and panels of several international and domestic advertising bodies.
 

Former Ikeja council Chairman, Toyin Hamzat, assasinated

Former chairman of Ikeja LGA and and special adviser in the Lagos Ministry of Health, Toyin Hamzat, was shot dead around 9 last night along the Sagamu Expressway, Ogun State while returning from his home in Aiyepe in Ogun State.

The police believe it was an assassination and not robbery because the gunmen didn't take anything from the scene of the incident. Five men have so far been arrested in connection with the murder.

111-year-old blind woman burnt to death

A 35-year-old man, Mr. Tyoakaa Ijoho, has allegedly set 10 thatched houses ablaze, killing a 111-year-old blind woman, Mama Martha Gyuse Bonko, in Adambge Village in Vandeikiya Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to eyewitnesses, Ijoho, who lost his father to a snake bite recently, was bitter and had gone to consult an oracle to ascertain the cause of the death of his father.

It was gathered that the native doctor, whom Ijoho consulted, allegedly told him that some of his family members had a hand in the death of his father, a development which prompted him to leave his place of abode in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state and headed straight for his village where he set the houses on fire.

One of the villagers, Abraham Chafa, told journalists that his mother, Mama Mezaga Chafa, aged 75, tried to help the 111-year-old woman out of one of the thatched houses but could not due to her age.

A 11 years old girl had a life-changing surgery to remove a growth doctors have identified as part of an identical twin that had failed to develop and was enveloped by its sister.

The mass on her back using an X-ray revealed abnormal curvatures of the spine which contained a breast, an arm with two fingers and Professor Baogan Peng was quoted in the journalBMJ Case Reports, as saying: ‘Based on physical examination and imaging findings, a diagnosis of fetus in fetu was made preoperatively.’

Fetus in fetu in an incredibly rare condition that affects only one in five million live births. It is a condition where the malformed foetus is found in the body of its twin. The foetus is found in the abdomen in 80 per cent of cases, although there have been reports of it occurring in the skull. However, this is the first time that is has been reported in the back.

The girl also suffered from diastematomyelia, which is a congenital disorder in which the spinal cord is split.
Prof Peng, who is an expert in spinal surgery at the General Hospital of Armed Police Force in Beijing, said doctors successfully removed the parasitic twin, despite there being no clear way of separating them.

He added that a later analysis also found digestive tract lining in the tissue.

splashed out on any over-priced Toblerone in duty-free.

The Bajan star is racking up a series of heavy fines — so far totalling nearly £200,000 — for 

late departures at airports.

Her appalling time-keeping at gigs and dedication to after-parties has resulted in almost every 

one of her private jet flights being delayed — and she’ll be the one picking up the bill.

A source said: “Rihanna delays going on stage, which throws out the whole schedule.

“It’s a reaction to the fact that every second of her time is accounted for by organisers. She 

likes to be in control.

“Her team have been making frantic calls throughout the night to the airports.

“Every hour that goes by she has to pay for flight clearance on runways and also incurs costs of 

the private airport teams, customs, baggage handlers and security.

“The tour will end up costing her a fortune.”

Rihanna’a 777 tour takes in seven cities in just seven days.

She has played five venues so far — including Berlin last night.

She is in London tonight, then her final 777 gig is in New York tomorrow.

So far she has been more than an hour late for every show — the biggest being Stockholm, 

where she was two-and-a-half hours late on stage.

Rihanna did manage to make her first flight on time from LA to Mexico.

But the following flight to Toronto was four hours delayed, followed by a three-hour hold-up at 

Stockholm.

Gig No4 was at the Trianon in Paris on Saturday night where she performed wearing a T-shirt 

featuring a picture of MADONNA.

P DIDDY, PHARRELL WILLIAMS and CASSIE turned up to the after-party, where they drank 

Dom Perignon Champagne poured from bottles decorated with huge sparklers until 4am.
