Gunman kills lover, 7 family members in Lagos

It was a bloody weekend at Igando area of Lagos State, when a suspected kidnapper said to be operating in Delta State, attacked the Lagos home of his girlfriend, killing her and seven others.

Vanguard gathered that the alleged kidnapper, identified simply as Henry, who is currently on the run, stormed the home of his girlfriend known as Sandra, around 10 p.m on Saturday, with an Ak-47 rifle and opened fire on all the occupants of the apartment, leaving Sandra, her elder sister, with two of her elder sister’s children dead.

Sandra’s twin sister and one of her elder sister’s daughter, however, survived.

Explosion under the Festac Link Bridge kills one

There was an explosion this morning under the Festac Link Bridge that killed a middle aged businessman, Oladele Pius. He was unfortunately passing under the bridge at the exact moment the explosion occurred. His body parts flew in different directions and police had to use shovel to scoop pieces of his body parts scattered around the scene into a bag. Sad! Mr Pius was the head of the sand dredgers association in the area.

The police said it wasn't a bomb as earlier speculated, that what the bomb disposal unit found at the scene was battery put in a torchlight. They promised to investigate what really happened and find the people behind it. There are those who believe that Oladele Pius was targeted. The man you see above was injured by the explosion. REDEEMED PASTOR DIES ON THE ALTER DURING PRAYER

When Pastor Solomon Komolafe of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Winners Assembly, Ibadan, Oyo State, set out for church on February 4, 2013, he was hale and hearty.

But his parish thrown into chaos moments later when Komolafe slumped after leading the congregation in a prayer session and died right on the altar. The Redeemed family is in shock!

Pastor Komolafe died nine months after one of his daughters lost her life in an auto crash around May 2012. One of the children of the deceased, Funsho, told Punch that Komolafe’s death was shocking and unbelievable. He said with his father’s death, it had become double calamity for the family.

Funsho said the 69-year-old Pastor did not have any terminal ailment. He stressed that he and other members of the family had yet to come to terms with the sad incident.

“My father, Pastor Komolafe, popularly known as Jack Solo, slumped right on the altar. The incident was immediately after he led the congregation in a prayer session. He slumped and died on the spot,” he said.

Funsho eulogised his father’s virtues, saying he was a disciplinarian, industrious, compassionate, philanthropic, pious, accommodating and exemplary leader.

Pastor Komolafe, an indigene of Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State, was survived by his wife, Adewunmi and three children: Oluwafunsho, Abiodun and Oluwaseyi.

Darey's show last night was incredible. The best show I've seen in Nigeria...hands down. I wouldn't know how to describe it even if I tried. But here's something I can tell you for sure. The success of the show had nothing to do with Kim Kardashian. It was all Darey, his wife and Soul Music. Kim K was there for like two seconds and took the next flight back home. She appeared at the beginning of the show, said a few words and vamoosed. Some people who paid to see her didn't get the chance.

She did the red carpet for several minutes, joined us at the pre-dinner event for like 10/15 minutes, did the photo-up with guests for a few minutes, then appeared on stage at the beginning of the show for like 20 seconds. That was it! Hope they didn't pay her more that N2, 000...lol. I was so annoyed.

Two Nigerian journalist brutalised by South African police

Two Nigerian journalists covering the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) were kicked, dragged on the ground, threatened with cocked guns and forcibly detained for two hours by officers of the South African police in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon. Blaze ... burning cabin where police believed Christopher Dorner has died

COP killer Christopher Dorner is thought to have died after charred human remains were found in the blazing log cabin where he was holed up surrounded by police.

A charred body was pulled from the burned cabin with forensic tests expected to show it is ex-cop Christopher Dorner.
Officials said yesterday a wallet containing Dorner’s driving licence was found in the building.
Police have yet to confirm the remains are those of Dorner, 33, but Los Angeles Police chief Charlie Beck described the events as a “bittersweet night”.
A Sheriff’s deputy was killed in a shootout with Dorner as he barricaded himself in a cabin bringing the total of people killed in his deadly rampage to four.

The Enugu state governor spoke to journalists in Enugu on Monday. Below is what he shared...

“Late August or early September, last year, I am not sure again of the dates, but it is about that time. I was privileged to be one of those nominated by the Nigeria Governors Forum to go to Germany to understudy their federal system. A Governor was picked from each of the six geo-political zones. I represented the South-East and of course, we were led by our Chairman, Rotimi Amaechi.

“On our way to Germany, I decided to go a little bit earlier, passing through London to do my medicals because of what I will call lack of our time. We do not have time here. So, I decided to take that opportunity, got to London and did my medicals and was certified fit. I was given a clean bill of health. But I had a little growth here (pointing at the right side of his neck) that was not visible to anybody. I am a very observant person. I noticed it, showed it to my doctor and he touched it and said he didn’t feel it is anything serious, that I should just try and forget it.

SIX kids perished in an inferno after a plot hatched by their dad to frame his ex-mistress for torching their house went “horribly wrong”, a court was told yesterday.

Dumped Mick Philpott, 55 — who had shared the semi with her AND his wife — boasted he had a ruse to win a feud with the lover after she walked out on the bizarre set-up, jurors heard.
The jobless ex-baker — a father of 17 who had four kids with his mistress — was fuming that she had taken her children with her.

But while Philpott and his “lapdog” wife Mairead did get out, six of their sleeping kids were trapped upstairs. The smoke killed ten-year-old daughter Jade with her brothers John, nine, Jack, seven, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five.

The pop superstar announced on Twitter yesterday that she’s been diagnosed with synovitis – a severe inflammation of joints.
Apologetic Gaga told fans she’d been hiding the condition from her crew, but was left in agony and unable to walk after her show in Montreal, Canada, on Monday night.
Via a series of tweets, she wrote: “I’m so sorry. I barely know what to say. I’ve been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, over the past month it has worsened.
“I’ve been praying it would heal. I hid it from my staff, I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans.
“However after last night’s performance I could not walk and still can’t.
“I am completely devastated and heartsick.
“To the fans in Chicago, Detroit and Hamilton, I hope you can forgive me as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself right now. I would do anything for you.
“I will hopefully heal as soon as possible.”
Doctors have ordered her to rest before resuming her punishing Born This Way Ball tour, though concerns are growing for her long-term ability to perform onstage.
Regular occurrence of synovitis can result in degeneration of the affected joint and is linked to arthritis, lupus, gout and other conditions.
Gaga has previously confessed to a history of “borderline lupus”.
Fans have been voicing their worries on Twitter.
One wrote: “Most disturbing is that synovitis can be associated with lupus. Gaga has stated in the past that she has borderline lupus. Scary.”
Another tweeted: “Synovitis is a symptom of lupus, I'm literally about to cry. I feel my chest burning and my heart racing.”

Worshippers give Bishop Oyedepo 700 cars as offering

This actually happened a few weeks back but I'm only just hearing about it. According to sources in the know, during Winners Chapel Cross Over service on Tuesday January 1st in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun state, worshipers of the church made donations of over 700 exotic cars to the church. People who felt they had been richly blessed in 2012 came to the cross over service with different donations, most significant was the number of exotic brand new cars and SUVs that flooded Canaanland. The people who donated them dropped the keys and documents of the cars during offering. The church auctioned the cars at very cheap prizes to its members. Some cars were sold for as low as N300k.

Senators kick as N4billion is budgeted for Patience Jonathan's project

The office of the First Lady is not known to the constitution, some say it's even illegal, but there's a N4 billion vote in the 2013 budget of the Federal Capital Territory for the First Lady Mission, which is Dame Patience Jonathan's project. The N4 billion is for building a mission office for the First Lady.

Senators who reviewed the FCT budget yesterday kicked against the expenditure; Senator Babajide Omoworare said:

The Women Development Centre is there for the use of the First Lady to do anything she wants to do and I'm not aware that there's a First Ladies Mission in the US where we copied the presidential system of government. There's no such building in South Africa or Ghana that is our neighbour

Senator Babjide Ojudu said:

I'm worried and I hope that those of us who are leaders in this country do not take the youths for granted. How can we vote N4 billion for office of the First Lady? I just pray and hope that this does not get to the public because if it does, we are in trouble. Nigerians will not forgive us for appropriating money for an office that doesn't exist in Nigeria.
